The music team at Christ Fellowship seeks to glorify God by celebrating His Son, Jesus, and His work in our lives and in all of creation. Singing and playing instruments is a vital part to our fellowship and, we believe, to the Church as a whole.
Music? What about Worship?
Music is certainly a form a worship, but so are many other things. We believe worship is a response to the revelation God which glorifies Him (cf. Gen 22:5). Worshiping God is broad in form and is not solely represented by the music and arts ministries at our fellowship, so we think it is more befitting to be called the Music Team. With that said, we believe music has a powerfully role in the church and in the world. Here are our motivations for the Music Ministry at Christ Fellowship:
Expression
Music expresses who we are before the Lord, and it helps us to communicate our thoughts and emotions to Him. In us, we have the breath of God, the image of God, and the indwelling Spirit of God- we are compelled to express our joys and lamentations which may otherwise be unspeakable.
Edification
Music can educate and build the Church in solid doctrine as it communicates clearly with both word and prosody (intonation, rhythm and emphasis). Put another way, lyrics, when married with melody, harmony, and rhythm have a distinct opportunity to build up the church in knowledge and wisdom in ways greater than words alone. Furthermore, memories can be attached to musical sound creating great sentimental value, reminding us of past events, encouraging us in dry times, and inspiring us to press on.
Evangelism
Music’s abstract and fleeting qualities stir the heart and mind, while its orderliness and rationality indicate divine intelligence. And so it can be used to communicate the Gospel of Jesus, the Savior, drawing people back to their Creator.
Establishment
In response to the revelation of God, the congregational song offers a first chance for the Church to confirm His message. Music provides a shared experience whereby God’s people can choose to be joyful, peaceful and bound together in unity as they praise and worship their Lord and Savior.
