My first visit to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon produced a distinct “WoW”! At elevations from 8200-8800 feet, it’s a magnificent, and much less visited, view of one of our countries majestic places. Adding to this was camping so the deer walking through the camp, the chipmunks, and the mild weather brought by this altitude all made for a wonderful out-of-doors experience.
This trip was planned in August, both to coincide with the full moon of August and this calendar month is their “monsoon” season. Some 2 inches of rainfall make up the rainy month! As I’m prone to say, “That’s a clue”! One evening in particular provided a significant portion of their “monsoon” and some powerful imagery. I only wish more images could have been captured in this fast moving thunderstorm. It was definitely powerful and majestic!
A side trip to Monument Valley, complete with a Navajo guide into the “backplaces,” added some additional looks and images from this “Big Sky” country. I’ll be adding some additional images in the future attempting to display just a little of the impressiveness of this beautiful place and these powerful formations.
Enjoy . . .
